Entally is a neighbourhood of Central Kolkata, in Kolkata district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is bounded by Sealdah and Beliaghata in the north, Tangra in the east, Beniapukur in the south, and Taltala in the west. The locality has a population of approximately 60,800 and covers roughly 1.58 square kilometres, making it one of Central Kolkata's more densely settled pockets. It spans parts of Ward Nos. 54, 55, and 56 of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, divided between Entally police station and Beniapukur police station.
The East India Company obtained from the Mughal emperor Farrukhsiyar in 1717 the right to rent from 38 villages surrounding their settlement, 33 of which lay on the Calcutta side. After the fall of Siraj-ud-daulah, the Company purchased these villages in 1758 from Mir Jafar and reorganised them — Entally was one of this cluster, known collectively as Dihi Panchannagram. Entally was formally added to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation in 1888. The locality also carries a significant humanitarian association: Mother Teresa began her activities in Entally. At 155A AJC Bose Road, near Entally Market, stands the house of Henry Derozio, the pioneer of the Bengal Renaissance and the Young Bengal movement.
Moulali is a five-point junction within Entally that connects East Kolkata with Central Kolkata through Lenin Sarani, S.N. Banerjee Road, and CIT Road (Sundari Mohan Avenue), and links North Kolkata with South Kolkata through AJC Bose Road. AJC Bose Road is a major north-south thoroughfare that runs through Entally, providing a direct link to South Kolkata and the BBD Bagh business district. CIT Road — also known as Sundari Mohan Avenue in the Entally stretch — facilitates east-west travel toward Howrah Bridge and Esplanade.
Sealdah Station, one of the largest railway terminals in the Kolkata Metropolitan Area, is located nearby. Metro stations — Chandni Chowk, Esplanade, Park Street, and Rabindra Sadan — are within a three-kilometre radius. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport is approximately 15 kilometres away. A large number of bus routes operate along AJC Bose Road, Dr. Lal Mohan Bhattacharya Road, and CIT Road.
The area supports a mix of established apartment complexes, esteemed educational institutions including Baptist Girls Higher Secondary School, and well-equipped hospitals such as Medica Super-specialty Hospital. For medical needs, Dr. Rafi Ahmed Dental College and Hospital and Baker Ward are in close proximity. The locality houses Loreto Convent and Albany Hall Public Schools, and hospitals within five kilometres include Fortis and Horizon Life Line Pvt. Ltd.
Shopping options include Big Bazaar and Brand Factory, while local markets serve daily needs. Quest Mall, an upscale retail destination south of Entally, offers branded retail, dining, and entertainment. Quest Mall and E-Mall are both within roughly two kilometres.
The approximate price for buying apartments in Entally is around ₹10,500 per square foot at the higher end of the market, while property prices in the broader Sealdah–Christopher Road belt range between ₹7,500 and ₹11,500 per square foot. Year-on-year price change for apartments in the locality averages around 1.9%, reflecting a market that has matured steadily rather than surged.
Average monthly rents in Entally range from approximately ₹26,000 to ₹42,000, driven in part by the area's proximity to Central Kolkata employment centres. Tenants are drawn to Entally for its proximity to major workplaces, and end-users value its centralised, well-connected position.
Kolkata's residential market as a whole has shown meaningful momentum: the city remains one of India's most affordable major residential markets, with over 17,000 homes sold in 2024, amounting to transactions nearing ₹12,000 crore. Housing prices in Kolkata witnessed one of the steeper increases among major Indian cities, rising approximately 29% in FY 2024–25 according to PropEquity data.
Active developers in the locality include PS Group, Sugam Homes, Mani Group, and Merlin Group, the latter with ready units already available. The under-construction supply is still selective — there are 19 residential projects in Entally in total, a relatively contained pipeline for a central address of this size.
Sugam Homes' presence here comes through Sugam Niavara at 7 Convent Road, Moulali — accessible via the Moulali junction or Philips Crossing, yet set back on quiet Convent Road, offering residents a degree of separation from the main arterial traffic. The project comprises a single tower of 32 floors with approximately 118 units. Possession is scheduled for September 2028.
Sugam Homes brings a well-documented Kolkata track record to this address. With 35-plus years of legacy, the developer has focused on affordable luxury and sustainable living. The firm is among a small number of Kolkata developers with IGBC-certified projects, and its portfolio spans locations including Tollygunge, EM Bypass, Garia, Narendrapur, Salt Lake Sector V, and Konnagar. Sugam Niavara, the Entally project, has been conceptualised by globally recognised architect Ricardo Bofill.
Entally is a working central neighbourhood, not a curated suburb. Mughlai restaurants including Arsalan, Shiraz, and Zeeshan are within walking distance, reflecting the area's cosmopolitan food culture. Well-lit roads and a regular PCR van presence contribute to reasonable street-level safety. The trade-off is density: peak-hour traffic congestion and limited on-street parking are recurring concerns for residents and commuters. Buyers who prioritise a central address with immediate access to Sealdah, the metro corridor, and a dense services network will find Entally practical; those seeking lower density will look further east or south.
